Poem: Wednesday Night with a Tech Billionaire
Wednesday Night with a Tech Billionaire
He gave his kids Roman names
because he knew that his life
would be filled with importance—
like he is a figure of
historical consequence.
And they have all been to Rome—
on private jets they’ve traveled
to the major capitals
all across the continents
so he could see the expanse
of a kingdom money can buy.
But tonight they are in a
Bay Area pizza shop.
He can tell the emperors
are unhappy with his choice.
He tells them that this place is
very hard to get into,
that it’s so much better than
Pizza Hut or Dominoes.
The emperors do not care.
They wish they were home with mom.
They hardly look up from phones.
He lectures them. It’s not fair;
he only gets one evening
every week to see them.
