The Cowboy & the Mountie
(for Phil)

A Cowboy who was goin’ northbound
met a Mountie headed southbound
on their horsebacks one sunny day.

It was near the Montana line,
or maybe the Alberta line,
depending on the riders’ way.

The Cowboy brought up wait times for
elective surgeries and more,
then asked if things were goin’ okay.

The Mountie brought up mass shootings,
medical debt, and a few things,
then said goodbye and rode away.

So the guy who had been northbound
thought and started to feel real down
for the Mountie’s naiveté.
