Poem: The Chatty Man

Poem: The Chatty Man

The Chatty Man

The Chatty Man
would like to chat.
He has stories
he needs to tell
about his wife
and how they met—
about his rare
sleep condition.

He was once a
librarian,
so he knows you’re
doing “it” wrong—
whatever “it”
happens to be,
he’s firmly in opposition.

He is immune
to social cues.
He doesn’t care
where you should be
or what you should
be doing now.
You would do it
wrong anyhow.

You need to know
he’s important.
Only he has
the special glue
and uses old
forever stamps
to spend less now.

His wife isn’t
his better half;
”She’s the better
ninety percent!”
He laughs alone
because his jokes
never land and
always fall flat.

But it is you,
the bank tellers,
the clerks, and the
receptionists
who are all wrong,
because he is
The Chatty Man,
and he will chat.
